District Council of

Loxton Waikerie

Disclosure of Information

The District Council of Loxton Waikerie is committed to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability in its administrative and management practices and, therefore through its Whistleblowers Protection Policy

, encourages the making of disclosures that reveal Public Interest information.

Public Interest information is that which tends to show that a public officer (elected Member or an officer or employee) or the Council is or has been involved:

The person who makes such a disclosure is known as a whistleblower. Disclosures may be made by elected members, staff, committee members, or members of the public as long as there are sufficient grounds to believe that improper or corrupt conduct has occurred. Disclosures must also be made to an Appropriate Authority.

Council does not tolerate conduct deemed improper by the Act by its members, employees or volunteers; nor reprisals against those who come forward to disclose such conduct. The council will take all reasonable steps to protect from any detrimental action those individuals who make disclosures regarding corrupt or improper conduct. It will also afford procedural fairness to the person who is the subject of the disclosure.

You can make a disclosure to an Appropriate Authority within Council, by confidentially contacting one of Council’s Responsible Officers – the Chief  Executive Officer or the Director of Corporate and Community Services  (08) 8584 8000. The Responsible Officer will advise you of the process and protections available.

Alternatively you can read about the process within the policy.
