Defibrillator Locations

A defibrillator, also known as a 'defib', is a device that uses electricity to re-start the heart or shock it back into its correct rhythm. It is used when someone suffers a sudden cardiac arrest, which occurs when the heart suddenly stops pumping. The defibrillator analyses the heart rhythm and decides whether an electric shock is needed.

20,000 Australians suffer from a sudden cardiac arrest every year and unfortunately, without defibrillation and CPR, fewer than 5% survive. Every minute that passes without defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by 10%. If you do use a defibrillator within the first few minutes of sudden cardiac arrest, it can increase the survival rate to as high as 70%.
