Assistance for community groups and clubs for new food safety requirements

Published 5th September 2023
The District Council of Loxton Waikerie has agreed to assist sporting clubs, service clubs, and community groups in the region who may be impacted by the new Food Safety Standard (3.2.2A – Food Safety Management Tools) that recently came into effect for organisations handling and selling food in Australia.

The new standard introduces crucial food safety measures to enhance food safety. Restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, schools, petrol stations, delis, takeaway food shops or trucks, sporting or community clubs, seafood retailers, butchers, market stalls as well as establishments selling ready-to-eat unpackaged food will be required to adopt two or three new food safety management tools, which include:

  • Making sure food handlers are appropriately trained
  • Nominating a qualified Food Safety Supervisor (FSS)
  • Showing effective management of key food safety practices

The deadline for all impacted food businesses to comply with the new Food Safety Standard is 8 December 2023.

To assist and promote food safety in the district, the District Council of Loxton Waikerie has agreed to cover the food safety supervisor course for one nominated person for not-for-profit sporting clubs, community groups, and service clubs. To qualify for the subsidy, organisations must:

✓ Register two people into a FSS Course provided by Registered Training Organisations: and
✓ Successfully complete the units of competency; and
✓ Submit evidence to Council upon completion before 30 November 2023.

We understand the importance of ensuring that our community’s food businesses maintain the highest level of safety and hygiene. By assisting our local clubs in obtaining a certified food safety supervisor, we aim to support a strong culture of food safety within our district, providing both residents and visitors with peace of mind whenever they decide to dine out.
