Council Frustrated With Delays in William Street Staircase Repairs
The Council understands that residents have been waiting a considerable amount of time for work to commence. The staircase’s damage has left a well-used river access point unusable, and we share the community's eagerness to see it restored.
Delays in the repair process are primarily due to the complexities involved in claiming the work through insurance. Unfortunately, the nature of these claims often results in extended timelines, which is beyond the Council's immediate control. Additionally, the availability of contractors that specialise in this type of repair work has presented a further challenge, complicating the timeline for repairs.
Before the staircase can be repaired, extensive groundwork is required, including the drilling of screw piles that will extend up to eight meters into the ground to ensure structural integrity. This step is crucial to provide a safe and durable solution for the community.
Council is committed to resolving these issues as quickly as possible. We are actively liaising with contractors to expedite the process and are doing everything we can to get the repair work underway. We appreciate the community's patience and understanding and will continue to keep residents informed as progress is made.
