Free Pool Access Making a Splash Across the District

Published 23rd December 2025
Council's decision to introduce free seasonal access to the Loxton and Waikerie Swimming Pools is already delivering strong results, with hundreds of residents taking up the offer since the season opened in late October.

Introduced as part of Council’s broader response to easing cost-of-living pressures this financial year, the initiative is designed to ensure that every community member has the opportunity to stay active and connected throughout the warmer months.

By removing financial barriers, the program supports families, individuals and seasonal workers to enjoy safe public recreation spaces, and promotes inclusive participation across the community.

Since the pools opened for the season in late October, the impact has already been significant. Participation has increased substantially across both facilities:

  • Waikerie Swimming Pool: 483 season passes issued, compared with 55, 50, and 48 in the previous three years
  • Loxton Swimming Pool: 906 season passes issued, compared with 188 in 2024/25 and 194 in 2023/24

Mayor Trevor Norton said the strong uptake reinforces Council’s commitment to supporting residents during a challenging economic period.

“This initiative is one of the ways Council is helping ease cost-of-living pressures while continuing to invest in the health and wellbeing of our community. Our pools are important social hubs, especially in summer, and we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy them. The increase in season passes shows that removing the financial barrier is making a real difference for local families and workers.”

Eligible residents can still apply for their free 2025/26 season pass by visiting either pool during its regular opening hours. Eligibility includes:

  • Adult residents of the District Council of Loxton Waikerie
  • Children under 18 listed as dependents on a family season pass with a parent or caregiver
  • Seasonal workers who provide a letter from their employer confirming seasonal work within the Council area
