River Fringe Returns Bigger and Brighter in 2026
Council has today launched its River Fringe 2026 Event Guide, showcasing 22 shows and events across 26 sessions, featuring a vibrant mix of visual arts, theatre, music and cabaret, comedy, dance and immersive experiences for all ages.
This year’s program offers something for everyone, including a blend of free and ticketed events, animal-friendly activities and a strong focus on inclusive and accessible experiences, ensuring the arts can be enjoyed by the whole community.
A highlight of the 2026 season is the Loxton Garden of Riverfront Delights, taking place on Saturday 21 February at the iconic Murray River Queen. Loxton will come alive with its first-ever riverside Fringe event, delivering a vibrant evening of live music, circus, roving performers and colourful live art as the sun sets over the river. Visitors can explore bustling markets showcasing local artisans, enjoy regional food and spirit tastings, and even hop aboard the Murray River Queen for a one-of a kind drag queen experience, Queens on the Queen. The event will officially launch the River Fringe 2026 season with a celebration of arts, food and riverfront magic.
Local favourite, the Waikerie Riverfront Markets will return for their fourth instalment, alongside hands-on arts workshops, line dancing in Waikerie, and a diverse range of artist exhibitions offering fresh and exciting creative approaches. Comedy fans can also enjoy Little Boxes, hosted by a comedian from Little Britain.
This year’s guide also introduces River Fringe’s brand-new mascot, Ozzie the Galah - a bold, curious and colourful character crafted by local artist Kari Cooper especially for the Riverland’s unique Fringe experience.
“It is exciting to see River Fringe continue to grow. It’s wonderful to see such a diverse and inclusive program that supports local artists, attracts visitors to the region and offers our community new and exciting ways to engage with the arts”.
- Mayor Trevor Norton
“River Fringe is a bold burst of creativity unique to our district, bringing the spirit of Adelaide Fringe to the Riverland. With a seasonal program that’s funky, funny, queer and delightfully chaotic, it makes all the arts accessible to locals who may not be able to travel to Adelaide - inviting everyone to experience the unexpected, close to home. This festival season welcomes 24 events, provided by 50+ artists and creatives, across 13 local venues – the highest engagement River Fringe has seen in one season. Support arts in the Riverland and purchase your show tickets now!”
- Arts and Culture Officer, Simone Stretton
The River Fringe 2026 Event Guide is available now online at www.exhibitingloxtonwaikerie.com, with printed copies available from Council offices and libraries, as well as selected local retailers and participating venues.
