Waikerie Caravan Park Freehold Sale Moves Forward

Published 21st April 2026
has resolved to sell the freehold of the Waikerie Caravan Park, with the decision made during its Council meeting held on Wednesday 15 April 2026.

Following a competitive sale process, the Edwards Group (current managers of the park under a long-term lease) have been identified as the successful purchasers.

The sale is subject to several key conditions, including the successful subdivision of the Waikerie Fauna Park and the establishment of easements to protect critical Council infrastructure, including the Community Wastewater Management System (CWMS), power services and the levee bank.

Importantly, the agreement ensures the Waikerie Fauna Park will remain under Council ownership, continuing to be maintained by the existing community group. It also retains a condition on the caravan park title requiring the site to operate as a camping and tourist park, helping to secure its long-term future.

While the purchase price remains confidential at this stage, the proposed sale represents a positive opportunity for both Council and the broader community. The Edwards Group has indicated plans to expand accommodation and increase visitor capacity, supporting tourism growth and strengthening the local economy.

Settlement of the sale will occur following completion of subdivision and easement processes.

The sale follows Council’s announcement on 30 January 2026 that both the Loxton and Waikerie freehold caravan parks would be placed on the market. Offers relating to the Loxton Caravan Park remain under consideration in confidence.

This initiative forms part of Council’s broader strategic approach to tourism and asset management, enabling private sector investment in key visitor infrastructure while allowing Council to focus on delivering essential services and community facilities.

“The decision reflects a strong balance between enabling growth and protecting community assets. Council is pleased to see the Waikerie Caravan Park transition to experienced operators who have a clear vision for future investment, while ensuring important community assets like the Fauna Park remain protected and accessible. This outcome supports local tourism and provides long-term benefits for our region”.

- Trevor Norton, Mayor

“Council and community are strongly invested into the riverfront at Waikerie, Waikerie is a premium destination at the beginning of the Riverland, and an upgrade of the parks’ facilities should benefit the whole of the Waikerie business community. We want no excuse to drive past Waikerie to a town with better facilities. The Edwards group have invested heavily in other parks they own and the willingness to expand the facilities and options at the park was a deciding factor in the Council decision and Council looks forward to the additional economic benefit to the town.”

- David Beaton, Chief Executive Officer

“We’d like to thank Council for their engagement throughout what has been a thorough and competitive process. This acquisition represents another strategic investment in Waikerie for the Edwards Group and provides us with the confidence to continue developing and expanding Echo Holiday Parks – Waikerie in the years ahead. We see significant opportunity to grow visitation, support the local economy and further strengthen Waikerie’s appeal to travellers seeking a riverside holiday.”
