$2.2 Million Secured to Expand Loxton Retirement Village

Published 2nd October 2026
Council has secured $2.2 million in Australian Government funding to support the expansion of the Loxton Retirement Village, providing much-needed additional housing for older residents and supporting the ongoing growth of the Loxton community.

The funding has been awarded through Round 1 of the Sustainable Communities Project and will contribute towards the construction of 22 new two-bedroom units at the Village.

The Loxton Retirement Village currently comprises 108 units, following its most recent expansion in 2023 with 8 new units constructed in Jan Cass Crescent. This followed the delivery of a new community centre in 2022, providing residents with a range of shared amenities including a multi-function room, cinema, activities room, kitchen and outdoor entertaining area.

Strong and ongoing demand for accommodation has resulted in a waiting list of more than 250 people, with community members waiting for extended periods for an opportunity to secure a unit.

The new units will provide additional options for older residents seeking to remain living locally, while also helping to make existing homes available to other households as people transition into retirement accommodation.

The project is also expected to provide broader economic benefits through construction activity and increased local spending, while supporting the continued development of Loxton as a place where people can live, age and remain connected to their community.

Comments attributable to Chief Executive Officer, David Beaton:

“The funding is a significant outcome for our community, and will allow Council to progress an important expansion of the Loxton Retirement Village. With strong demand and a substantial waiting list, 22 new units will provide much-needed additional accommodation for older residents wanting to remain living locally.

Comments attributable to Mayor, Trevor Norton:

“This funding is a fantastic opportunity to continue investing in the Loxton Retirement Village and respond to the significant demand we are seeing from our community. Our older residents have played an important role in building the community we have today, and it is important we provide opportunities for people to remain living locally and connected to their families, friends and community.”

This project is funded by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water through the Australian Government’s Sustainable Communities Program.
